In Orange County, individuals suffering from mental health disorders are frequently booked into, and released from, the Orange County Jail. Without effective treatment, many of these vulnerable individuals continue suffering from mental health issues. The Corrections Facility is in a unique position to provide treatment for these individuals in a controlled, safe environment while they are inmates at the Corrections Facility.
The Orange County Telehealth Psychiatric Services Program increases access to psychiatric services for inmates with mental health disorders while at the Corrections Facility. The program provides psychiatric services including psychiatric assessments, ongoing medication management, and psychiatric consultations.
Clients are selected by County for assessment based on their symptoms. Following receipt of written consent and approval to treat, the agency will assess, diagnose, prescribe medications, and develop a treatment course and/or perform ongoing medication management, if appropriate. The agency charts the patient’s record through the County’s electronic health record system, and the County provides access to a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliant telehealth platform for this program.
