PROCUREMENT:
This amendment adds funding to support programming focused on immersive employment experiences and career training opportunities for students. Programming exposes students to careers that align with their interests while also building valuable professional skills, including communication, self-advocacy, and the ability to effectively work with others in a professional setting.
The additional funding will be sourced from Children’s Services Rollover Funding and must be utilized by the conclusion of the contract year ending December 31, 2026. This funding will result in an additional 6,220 hours of services provided to an additional 318 students during the contract year.
APPROVALS:
The Citizens’ Commission for Children Advisory Board recommended the continuation of funding for existing youth employment, internship, and apprenticeship programming. The Citizens’ Commission for Children Division (CCC) concurs with the funding recommendation. Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, Inc. has previously received funding from the CCC for programs including reading and math coaches, arts innovation and learning loss prevention/intervention programming. Under this contract, Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, Inc., is currently providing satisfactory services.
REMARKS:
Programming will be advertised through flyers and social media posts, and through Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers and career specialists on Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) high school campuses. The CTE teachers also discuss the opportunity during classes, as several opportunities correlate to the subject/field they are teaching.
Programming through this funding will be available to students ages 16 and older, enrolled in any of the 22 OCPS high schools. Internships will be primarily offered during the summer; however, the career training and job readiness component will be delivered throughout the school year. Selection of students will be based on several criteria to include, but not be limited to, enrollment in a career and technical education program, career exploration interest, and submission of an application for consideration.
Internship opportunities will be provided at employment locations countywide, and have included placement with local nonprofits, as well as businesses such as Entertainment Technology Partners, Loews Hotels, and Lockheed Martin. Additionally, many students complete their internships within various OCPS Departments, including Human Resources, Food Services, Information Technology Services, CTE Data, CTE Video Production/Marketing, etc.
While this program is exclusively for OCPS-enrolled high school students, this funding award is not inclusive of all youth internships or vocational opportunities for youth funded by Orange County Government. The CCC also funds employment and internship opportunities for both in and out-of-school youth countywide through contracts with Career Source of Central Florida, Inc. and Professional Opportunities Program for Students, Inc. All eligible Orange County residents may have access to funded programs/services.
On May 21, 2024, the Board authorized award of Contract Y24-2013 to Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, Inc. in the total contract award amount of $1,246,000 for a three-year term.
