PURPOSE:
Tangelo Park residents and the International Drive Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Committee requested an assessment of the existing bus shelter and stop locations within Tangelo Park for possible improvements.

The assessment, performed by Orange County and LYNX staff, determined that nine locations warranted improvement. Five of these locations have been improved by LYNX to date. The remaining four bus shelter locations were warranted for refurbishment utilizing LYNX funds.

Tangelo Park residents expressed concerns with refurbishing the four bus shelters as the roof design does not provide sufficient shade or protection from the elements. Based on this feedback from residents, LYNX provided an estimate of $318,488.26 to provide new bus shelters at the remaining four locations. LYNX agreed to offset this amount with $51,300 that they had set aside to refurbish these bus shelters. The total cost of all four bus shelters is therefore $267,188.26. This cost includes the removal of the existing bus shelters, the installation of new bus shelters to current standards, and their continued maintenance. The roof design of the new bus shelters will provide better protection from the Central Florida weather.
