PURPOSE: The Office of the Orange County Supervisor of Elections recently informed the County of a special election that was called by the Town of Windermere, Florida to hold a referendum on the annexation of the Chaine Du Lac Community into the Town. Accordingly, a mail ballot election is scheduled for February 4, 2025, and is required to be canvassed by the Orange County Canvassing Board.

On July 11, 2023, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners appointed: (1) Commissioner Gomez Cordero to serve as the primary member of the Canvassing Board; and (2) Commissioner Moore to serve as the alternate member. However, these appointments ended on December 31, 2024, creating a need to appoint two Commissioners to the Canvassing Board to canvass the Town’s upcoming special election and any other elections that may arise in 2025 that require canvassing by the County Canvassing Board.

On January 28, 2025, the Board will be asked to appoint two Commissioners to the County Canvassing Board: (1) one to serve as the primary member; and (2) one to serve as the alternate member. Each Commissioner is generally eligible as long as the Commissioner is not a candidate with opposition in the election being canvassed nor an active participant in the campaign or candidacy of any candidate with opposition in the election being canvassed. These appointments will end on December 31, 2025.
