for technical analysis, marketing, community outreach, and educational materials to support the Orange County’s Walk-Ride-Thrive! pedestrian safety initiative.

This grant award of $100,000 specifically funds the monitoring of six crosswalks five times annually, including data collection, observations, and photos; organization of two high visibility enforcements with law enforcement partners; the scheduling of six community outreach presentations or events in person or virtually; and the organization and facilitation of four youth traffic safety educational events at schools or community centers throughout Orange County to teach people under the age of 18 traffic safety related to walking, biking, use of micromobility devices and driving. In addition to these initiatives, the grant will also support the organization and facilitation of one bike rodeo within Orange County to teach middle school-aged children bicycle handling and safety practices, as well as provide staffing to support four helmet fitting events throughout the County.

In order to meet the needs and goals pedestrian safety in Orange County, the Traffic Engineering Division strategically partners with organizations to target pedestrian and bicycle safety issues affecting our residents in Orange County.
