PURPOSE: In June of this year, County staff, along with Martha Are, CEO of Homeless Services Network of Central Florida, conducted a work session with the Board about the current status of homelessness in Orange County, the substantial investments the County is currently making in programs and services supporting homeless individuals and families, and the legal implications of the recently passed, House Bill 1365, also known as the Unauthorized Public Camping and Public Sleeping Bill. At the conclusion of the work session, staff committed to returning to the Board at a future date with a plan for utilizing additional funding that the Mayor proposed to support the needs of the homeless and to outline a strategy for responding to the new law related to unauthorized camping and sleeping on public property.  On November 19, 2024, staff from the Mental Health and Homelessness Division and the County Attorney’s Office will provide a follow-up presentation to the Board for this purpose.  This item is for informational purposes only.  There is no action requested of the Board at this time.
