PURPOSE: During the November 2024, general election, voters approved an amendment to the County charter increasing the number of County Commissioners from six to eight, each representing a single-member district. The Board adopted a mid-decennial redistricting process through which it will increase the number of County Commission districts while meeting its obligation to adjust the number of districts and the commission district boundaries. In accordance with the requirements set forth in federal, state, and local law, and, pursuant to the Charter amendment, the Board must adopt such redistricting map no later than November 1, 2025, to be effective for the 2026 general election.

As part of the County’s redistricting process, on January 28, 2025, the Board created a 15-member citizen-led Mid-Decennial Redistricting Advisory Committee that - in compliance with the establishing resolution - is now recommending necessary or desirable adjustments to the County’s commission districts. The Mid-Decennial Redistricting Committee along with staff will share the process for engaging the community; reviewing and revising the commission district boundaries; and present the committee’s recommendation for consideration.
