PURPOSE:
Traffic Engineering staff recommend conversion of the existing traffic control at the Sheeler Avenue and East Cleveland Street intersection from a two-way stop control to a multiway stop control intersection.

Based on the analysis of traffic data and safety concerns, the community has identified a need for increased safety measures at the intersection of Sheeler Avenue and East Cleveland Street. Over the past 60 months, there has been a notable number of correctable crashes at this intersection, highlighting the need for enhancements.

The installation of a multi-way stop control is proposed to address the safety issues and reduce the risk of accidents at this location. By implementing stop signs at each leg of the intersection, we aim to enhance visibility, regulate traffic flow, and mitigate potential conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians.

This initiative will be a joint effort between the City of Apopka and Orange County due to jurisdiction/maintenance responsibilities. In support of the findings and to improve traffic operations, including pedestrian safety, Traffic Engineering staff recommends that the existing two-way stop control of East Cleveland Street be converted to a multiway stop control at the intersection of Sheeler Avenue and East Cleveland Street.
