PROJECT: N/A
PURPOSE:
Traffic Engineering staff recommends the designation of Matchett Road as an approved road for golf carts within the City of Belle Isle’s golf cart network. Matchett Road serves as a critical link, particularly due to its proximity to a local K-12 school. Residents have expressed overwhelming support for this designation as it would help alleviate traffic congestion during school drop-offs and pickups. Additionally, using golf carts provides a convenient and enjoyable alternative for parents to transport their children to school.
The designation of Matchett Road as a golf cart road will address the need to ensure the safe operation of golf carts along this road and provides needed connectivity to the existing golf cart network approved for Nela Avenue. To resolve this, it is crucial to educate and inform the community about the City of Belle Isle’s ordinance governing golf cart use. This ordinance covers various aspects such as obtaining permits, following operational guidelines, compliance with regulations, handling violations, and ensuring appropriate signage is in place.
Therefore, by raising awareness and ensuring compliance with these regulations, potential safety risks associated with golf cart use can be mitigated. This designation not only promotes safety but also enhances the overall efficiency and convenience of using golf carts on Matchett Road.
