PROJECT:
Exotic Wildlife Regulations Work Session

PURPOSE: On August 4, 2026, the Board directed staff to research potential zoning code amendments related to regulating businesses that exhibit exotic wildlife. Additionally, the Board directed the County Attorney's Office to research the role the State plays in regulating and permitting exotic animals and how that would impact any possible code amendments.

On October 27, 2026, staff will outline how the importation, keeping, and exhibition of exotic wildlife is regulated by the State; outline current County regulations regarding wildlife and other animal uses; and provide a summary of how such uses are regulated in other jurisdictions. Staff will also provide recommended code amendments and next steps and will be seeking feedback and direction from the Board.

This Work Session is for informational purposes only; no action is required by the Board.
