PURPOSE: Every Emergency Management Services (EMS) agency in the county that provides basic life support and advanced life support must employ or contract with a medical director that is a licensed physician responsible for supervising the medical performance of emergency medical technicians (EMT) and paramedics pursuant to F.S. 401.265. The EMS, Office of the Medical Director provides EMS medical direction for EMTs and paramedics at eight agencies in Orange County. Florida Statute and Section 20-72 of the Orange County Code require an interlocal agreement between the agency and county to formalize the arrangement and describes responsibilities related to medical direction, quality management, and medical communication. The EMS, Office of the Medical Director is requesting approval for an interlocal agreement to provide EMS medical direction to the City of Winter Garden. This agreement will continue a longstanding partnership between the county and the City of Winter Garden that supports a coordinated and centralized system of EMS medical direction across participating agencies.
