Chuluota Road Roadway Conceptual Analysis Study. (Transportation Planning Division)
body
PROJECT: N/A
PURPOSE: The Orange County Transportation Planning Division has completed the Chuluota Road Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) study as part of the Chuluota Road Roadway Conceptual Analysis (RCA) study.
The Chuluota Road RCA study recommended improvements providing additional vehicular capacity on Chuluota Road from SR 50 (East Colonial Drive) to Lake Pickett Road, a distance of approximately 1.9 miles. The purpose of the ICE study was to consider a two and four -lane option using alternative intersection control methods. Both studies were undertaken to develop the most appropriate road alignment and intersection configuration with stormwater facilities and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, while minimizing environmental impacts.
The Chuluota Road RCA addresses features such as the existing corridor characteristics, developing future / projected traffic volumes and suitable alternatives, and recommend roadway improvements for the proposed facility. The ICE analysis confirmed the need for improvement of the roadway to four lanes using original intersection configurations. In addition to the originally proposed improvements, staff will present a roundabout option to control speeding and potentially reduce the severity of crashes and the probability of fatal injury within the study segment.
At the April 22, 2025, Work Session, staff will present the Chuluota Road RCA background and the ICE study analysis, and recommendations. This item is for informational purposes only; no action is required by the Board.
